Organizing 2025

How Do We Get Out of the Bubble?

THIS COURSE WILL BE CONDUCTED IN GERMAN! The multiple crises of the present meet a crisis of the societal left and many social movements. But there are examples that give hope: the successes of the German hospital movement, the successful Berlin referendum by Deutsche Wohnen & Co. Enteignen, the Leipzig door-to-door campaign for a left direct mandate, or the election successes of the KPÖ in Graz, Innsbruck, and Salzburg. Many of these examples share an organizing strategy that has enabled movements to empower those affected to organize societal majorities. Organizing is essentially about the question: How do I manage to encourage people to act based on their personal concern? In the course, we want to discuss what organizing is and how we can build majorities for transformative politics in social movements using organizing methods. The goal is to develop concrete ideas on how participants can establish an organizing approach in their political practice.

Modules:

  • Origin and History of Organizing
  • Why Do We Organize?
  • Organizing Methods: From the Organizing Cycle to the One-on-One Conversation
  • Story of Self: Why Am I Politically Active?
  • How Do I Plan an Organizing Campaign?

This course is for you if ...

  • ...you are already organized in a group or a larger context (trade union, party, community center, or self-organization).
  • ...you and your organization are considering applying organizing elements in your political practice.
  • ...you attend the course together with comrades from your group (individuals are also warmly welcome).
